L’Amourita Cooperative; Seattle WA

I planned and executed a complete redesign and renovation of this historical townhouse in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood. The space was originally a two maid’s quarters which had been hastily combined to create a 1 bedroom apartment; the layout left much to be desired. The home’s new layout is bright and open views of Lake Union from the living room and kitchen. The bedroom and bathroom were moved to the rear of the space, giving them a feeling of quiet seclusion.

Mosaic Tile
This original mosaic tile design was custom designed for the exact dimensions of this bathroom. The design was inspired by tiled floors in building from the same era. The space and tiles had to be carefully measured to insure the finished design would fit perfectly. The tiles came pre-matted in sheets of a single color, so the design elements had to be cut out and laid in place individually.

No bath mat is needed in this bathroom because I installed radiant floor heating under the tile. Not only is the mosaic pleasing to the eye, it feels wonderful too.

Cards Against Humanity
Pop-up Shop at PAX PRIME 2014
Cards Against Humanity wanted to create a pop-up shop, game lounge, and print shop for PAX 2014. They chose ACT Theater as a venue so the shop could be open to the public, and hired my team at PJ Hummel & Co to make it look the part. I designed a portal-inspired walkway from the convention center to the subterranean pop-up shop that would peak visitors’ curiosity and generate buzz in the convention hall. The Hindenburg Disaster billboard was a last minute request from he client. I prepared the artwork, had it printed, shipped, and hung in the venue with barely a week’s notice (and on budget to boot!)

PAX attendee MoltenSlowa created the video to the left of the very long hallway. This design won the Emerald City Applause Award for Best Marketing Design. Photo credits to Anastassia Nelson and PJ Hummel & Co.

Good Old Games
“Good Old Grannies” at PAX PRIME 2011

First time PAX exhibitors wanted to make a splash without spending themselves out of business. I helped to design a unique booth that would stand out from the crowd. We found inspiration in childhood, shut up in the basement for days on end, gaming the summer away... But the real draw were our booth babes, professional actresses dressed to look like grandma offering up fresh baked chocolate chip cookies if we would just put down that dang game.

This booth design won a Sizzle Award from Exhibitor Magazine and an Emerald City Applause Award from ILEA. It also earned shoutouts from The Stranger, Kotaku, and Nerdist.

Microsoft Visual Studio
Tech Conference Exhibit Design and
Official Launch Event
In the months leading up to the launch of Microsoft Visual Studio in 2012, my team at PJ Hummel & Co worked with a team of marketers to design a series of eye catching exhibits to build buzz for the new product. We traveled to a mermaid of tech conferences including TechEd North America and STAREAST Testing Conference, delivering a new original exhibit design at each one. The project culminated back home in Seattle with the official launch party at Bell Harbor.

I took the lead as head designer for the TechEd and STAREAST conferences and played a key design role for the Seattle launch event. The Microsoft Visual Studio Launch won the ILEA Emerald City Applause Award for Best Marketing Campaign in 2012. Photo credits to Anastassia Nelson and PJ Hummel & Co.

Cosplay & Fashion Design

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
This partner cosplay is inspired by my favorite video game, the classic N64 game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I played Link and my cosplay partner Lauren Tappan played Sheik. I designed the sewing patterns for both costumes. Sewing was done by myself and Lauren. Both wigs were selected and styled by me. I also designed and fabricated all of the accessories including the harp, shield, and leatherwork. The sword and elf ears were purchased.

Cosplay & Fashion Design

Guilty Gear XX:  Bridget
This cosplay was created for a Guilty Gear cosplay group. Each of us selected a character from the game to play during a photo shoot at Sakura Con. I designed the sewing pattern for my costume from scratch. My costume’s construction and styling were done by me. Thanks to Leila and Kyle for looping me in on this project.

Vino
A wine set inspired by nature to enhance your wine drinking experience. The pebbles on the base become twining vines from which grow the grapes, echoing the pebbles below. This polished organism supports your wine, creating delight for the eyes and the palette.

The original Vino collection is made from mirror polished cast aluminum and hand blown glass.

The collection is based on a series of sketches depicting natural plant formations in the shape of wine glasses. The idea of a coral cradling a wine glass became the inspiration of the collection. Later, the coral was replaced by a grape vine, in keeping with the theme of wine.

After concepting  was completed, the designs were finalized in CAD and prepared for SLA rapid prototyping. The delicate honey comb structured SLA models were carefully sanded and enhanced with foundry wax in preparation for their investment casting in aluminum. Weeks of pains taking sanding and polishing later, the aluminum stems are ready to be paired with their hand blown glass vessels.

The Vino Picnic collection incorporates the same aesthetic as the original Vino in light weight, painted plastic. These inexpensive, "disposable" glasses are ideal for parties and outdoor meals, and would be available in a variety of fall colors.
